Operations at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) continue to face disruptions more than two weeks after a cyberattack. "Longer waiting times at check-in, boarding, and baggage claim may still occur," a spokesperson for the airport said on Monday. Staff are "doing their best to minimize the impact."
The service provider affected by the attack reportedly restored its system by Sunday as planned. Following this, "extensive security tests were conducted by the airport company’s IT department" to enable the reintegration of the system.
"The counters and boarding gates will be gradually and systematically reactivated in the coming days to resume normal operations," the spokesperson added. On Monday, flight operations were "largely running smoothly given the circumstances."
The cyberattack on the software provider on September 19 caused significant disruptions at several European airports, including BER. Brussels was particularly affected, with numerous flight cancellations, while London and Dublin also experienced operational issues.
