Hamburg is set to host one of Germany’s largest Christopher Street Day (CSD) demonstrations this Saturday, with police expecting up to 250,000 participants to join the celebration and protest starting at 12:00 p.m. Under the motto “We are here to stay. Protect queer people,” the event will feature around 75 decorated trucks and vehicles, along with more than 50 walking groups representing diverse LGBTQ+ communities, allies, and advocacy organizations.
CSD Hamburg is both a vibrant celebration of diversity and a powerful call for equality and protection of queer rights. The rally commemorates June 28, 1969, when police stormed the Stonewall Inn gay bar on New York's Christopher Street, leading to clashes between activists and security forces. The uprising is considered the birth of the modern gay and lesbian movement.
Following successful Pride events in Cologne and Berlin earlier this summer, Hamburg’s CSD continues the nationwide tradition of honoring the past, celebrating progress, and demanding full equality for all queer people in Germany. Organizers expect a colorful, energetic, and deeply meaningful day for the city.
