Volkswagen Group CEO Oliver Blume is expected to step down soon from his role as head of Porsche, the company’s supervisory board said on Friday. Discussions have begun with Blume regarding an early departure from the Porsche executive board. Michael Leiters, the former chief of British carmaker McLaren, is being considered as a potential successor.
Several media outlets had earlier reported that the search for Blume’s successor at Porsche had concluded. The supervisory board presidency confirmed that Leiters is “available” for the role and that “negotiations have now begun.”
Speculation over the end of Blume’s long-debated dual role as CEO of both Porsche and Volkswagen has been ongoing for some time. Reports earlier this summer indicated that the search for a replacement at the Stuttgart-based luxury carmaker had already started.
Blume reportedly wants to focus more on his responsibilities as Volkswagen Group CEO. The supervisory board confirmed that, should he step down at Porsche, Blume would remain CEO of Volkswagen AG. The 57-year-old has led Porsche for ten years and took over as Volkswagen Group CEO three years ago following Herbert Diess’s resignation.
