A 66-year-old man was seriously injured in a knife attack in the Berlin district of Lichtenberg. Police announced on Sunday that the attack occurred on Saturday evening around 7:30 p.m. in front of a supermarket. The 40-year-old alleged perpetrator was later arrested, and an arrest warrant has been filed against him on charges of grievous bodily harm.

According to police, the suspected perpetrator bought a kitchen knife in the supermarket. He used it to first attack a 22-year-old man directly in front of the store. However, the man was able to dodge the knife and remained unharmed. The attacker then inflicted life-threatening injuries on a 66-year-old man.

The seriously injured man was taken to a hospital by emergency services. His condition was reportedly stable on Sunday morning. The perpetrator initially fled. However, just under an hour later, police were alerted to a report of a person behaving abnormally on Frankfurter Allee. The 40-year-old was found there. He was clearly identified as being responsible for the knife attack.

There had previously been other knife attacks in Berlin. According to police, two still unknown men robbed a 35-year-old man in Berlin-Hellersdorf on Saturday night and demanded money. When he refused to comply, they stabbed him and fled without taking anything. This man was also taken to a hospital by paramedics for inpatient treatment.

In another, equally unrelated incident, a man stabbed a 38-year-old man in the stomach with a knife during an altercation in Berlin-Wedding on Saturday night. He, too, was treated in a hospital, but the perpetrator fled.

That same night, according to police in Berlin-Schöneberg, three unknown assailants attacked a 22-year-old man and dragged him toward a park entrance. One of the attackers held a knife to his throat, causing cuts. One of the perpetrators also stole money from the victim's jacket pocket. The injured 22-year-old was treated on the scene. The perpetrators apparently fled undetected.
