Lufthansa intends to expand its cooperation with Deutsche Bahn so that more travelers choose combined rail-and-air options, according to the airline’s CEO Jens Ritter. “For customers, it has to become even more attractive to use the train to reach their flight,” Ritter told the Funke newspapers over the weekend. He added that “many guests want a more comfortable way of handling their baggage.”

Ritter explained that an ideal scenario would allow passengers in cities such as Hamburg or Cologne to check in their luggage directly at the train station and then collect it only once they reach their final flight destination. Lufthansa is currently working on this concept together with Deutsche Bahn.

He also emphasized that strengthening the rail network is essential, including improvements such as establishing an ICE connection to Munich Airport.
