The song "Golden" from the current Netflix hit film "Kpop Demon Hunters" is the official German summer hit of the year. It has already been streamed 30 million times in this country and has been number one in the German singles charts for two weeks, as the market research institute GfK Entertainment announced on Wednesday in Baden-Baden. The institute analyzes market trends on behalf of the music industry.

For the first time after three consecutive German-language songs, an international song won the summer hit race this year. According to GfK, the K-pop song "Golden" benefits from a catchy melody and sing-along lyrics. The video platform TikTok, where fans mimic the film's choreography, is also crucial to its success.

"The continued success of K-Pop in Germany is reflected above all in an exceptionally committed fan community that shares and amplifies its enthusiasm via social media platforms," explained Mathias Giloth, Managing Director of GfK Entertainment. The driving force is "the younger generation."

According to GfK, such effects are amplified by remix versions of "Golden," for example, by superstar David Guetta. The song, performed by the fictional girl group HUNTR/X in the film "Kpop Demon Hunters," also tops the singles charts in numerous other countries, from the US to South Korea. The song is sung by artists EJAE, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Ami.

Last year, German rapper Shirin David delivered the official German summer hit with "Bauch Beine Po." In 2023, the techno remix "Mädchen auf dem Pferd" won the race, and the year before, the hit "Layla," which was controversial due to its lyrics, won the race. For the statistics, GfK analyzed sales and usage data from music retailers and streaming platforms.
