Jörg Dittrich, President of the German Confederation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH), has publicly criticized the federal government's inadequate reform efforts. In statements to newspapers of the Funke media group published in Friday editions, Dittrich expressed deep disappointment with the government's performance.
"I expect a coherent overall concept. Unfortunately, there is just as little to be seen of this in this spring of reforms as there was in the autumn of reforms last year"," said the ZDH President. He emphasized that he expects "more quality and professionalism" from the federal government in its work.
"This government consists of many experienced politicians," Dittrich stated. "Therefore, it is a justified expectation that better work is done there." Drawing on his own professional background, the crafts president noted that when workmanship errors occur in his trade, it is called "botched work."
Regarding policy substance, Dittrich criticized that "far too much is being talked about redistribution." He argued firmly: "But redistribution does not create economic growth. Neither does export jump, nor is there more investment when, for example, the top tax rate is increased."
The ZDH President called for overcoming "the exaggerated mistrust of entrepreneurship and personal responsibility in Germany." He warned that "excessive documentation requirements and excessively high taxes and levies rob many people of the drive to become self-employed and to be economically successful."
Furthermore, the crafts president demanded that every change in the tax system must create incentives for investment. Additionally, he stressed that the social security burden for companies and employees must be reduced, "as was achieved with Agenda 2010 under Chancellor Schröder."
