Discount retailers Aldi and Lidl have reduced prices on a wide range of chocolate and chocolate-based products. Aldi announced on Thursday that numerous items under its private labels Moser Roth and Choceur will now be permanently lowered by up to 50 cents per bar or pack. Later in the day, Lidl followed suit, cutting prices on a total of 27 products.
At Aldi, the largest price reduction applies to the 400-gram pack of Choceur Choco Peanuts, which now costs €2.49 instead of €2.99, a drop of 50 cents. According to a list released by the retailer, other chocolate items will be reduced by between 36 cents and 10 cents.
Lidl also lowered prices, with chocolate-coated pretzels seeing a cut of 50 cents, now priced at €1.49 for a 140-gram pack. According to industry publication Lebensmittelzeitung, Lidl is undercutting its competitor on more than a dozen products.
Consumers had faced significantly higher chocolate prices over the past few years. Cocoa prices rose for two consecutive years, reaching a historic peak in December 2024, $12,931 per tonne in New York and £10,100 per tonne in London. Prices have since fallen considerably.
