As reported by the “Bild” newspaper, the perpetrator was armed with a knife during the robbery at the gas station. He was masked and is said to have stolen items from the gas station, the newspaper reported.

Saarland Interior Minister Rheinhold Jost said he mourned “our young colleague who lost his life in Völklingen while working to keep us safe” and expressed his sympathy to his family, friends, and colleagues. At the same time, he promised a thorough investigation of the incident.


Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) said he was “horrified and shocked by the brutal act of violence in Völklingen.” A young police officer had been “torn from life” while on duty. “We are united in deep mourning with his relatives, friends, and colleagues. My prayers are with the family of the deceased,” Dobrindt said, according to the Interior Ministry.
