Telephone scammers have stolen at least one hundred thousand euros from a 62-year-old man in Baden-Württemberg. The victim fell for the fake bank employee and fake police officer scam, as the real officers in Ludwigsburg announced on Wednesday. According to reports, the 62-year-old from Marbach am Neckar received a call from a supposed bank employee on Tuesday afternoon.
The caller told the man that his cash had been affected by the actions of an arrested bank employee. Shortly afterward, the 62-year-old received another call from a supposed police officer who told him that investigations were underway against a gang of so-called grandparent scammers, which also included the bank advisor who had just called.
The man was told to comply with the demands so that the gang could be caught. Following these instructions, the 62-year-old handed over cash and jewelry worth a six-figure sum to an unknown collector. This case highlights a growing trend of sophisticated telephone fraud targeting elderly residents across Germany.
