Banking via smartphone: According to a survey, the majority of people in Germany conduct their banking transactions via apps on their mobile device. As a survey commissioned by Postbank in Bonn shows, 54.6 percent mainly use apps, 19.6 percent at least occasionally. The applications are even more widespread among younger people. The survey was made available to the AFP news agency on Wednesday.
According to the survey, 18.3 percent of respondents have no interest in apps for banking, 5.5 do not currently use them, but are generally open to them. "An astonishing number of people rule out using a banking app without ever having tried it. Security concerns are the biggest obstacle," explained Thomas Brosch, Head of Digital Sales at Postbank. Yet banking transactions via smartphone are just as secure as on a home computer.
Banking apps are particularly widespread among people under the age of 45. 89.8 percent of 25 to 34-year-olds use them mainly or occasionally. Among people aged 55 and over, the figure is significantly lower than average at 63.1 percent. ATMs are still the most important way to get cash. 64 percent use them to obtain banknotes in their everyday lives. However, 14.4% primarily withdraw money at the checkout when shopping. 6.7 percent go to their bank branch and 9.7 percent can do without cash completely, according to the survey.
For the study, the opinion research institute YouGov surveyed 2060 people over the age of 18 online on behalf of Postbank. The survey was conducted between March 21 and 24.
