Israel has agreed to a ceasefire in the war with Iran. Israel has accepted US President Donald Trump's proposal for a ceasefire, the Israeli government announced Tuesday morning. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced in a cabinet meeting that Israel had achieved all of its objectives "and much more." The large-scale military operation against Iran had eliminated the "imminent dual existential threat" to Israel posed by Tehran's nuclear and missile programs.

"Israel thanks President Trump and the United States for their defense support and for their participation in eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat," the statement continued. At the same time, the administration threatened that Israel would "respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire."

Trump announced on Monday night that Israel and Iran had agreed to a ceasefire that would be implemented in phases. On Tuesday morning, he wrote on his online service Truth Social that the ceasefire was "now in effect."

Iran has not yet officially confirmed the agreement. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi indicated Tehran's willingness to stop attacks on Israel if Israel stops its attacks.

On Tuesday morning, Iran fired several more rocket salvos at Israel. Shortly before 6:00 a.m. (CEST), the Iranian state broadcaster Irib reported that Iran had launched a "fifth wave" of attacks.

In southern Israel, four people were killed in an Iranian missile attack, according to the Magen David Adom rescue service. The missile hit a residential building in Beersheba, an AFP journalist reported. The search operation by rescue workers continued this morning.

Israel launched a major attack on Iran on June 13 and has since bombed nuclear facilities and military installations in the country. Iran has since attacked Israel in return with missiles and drones.

The United States entered the war between Israel and Iran on Sunday night, attacking the Iranian nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan with B-2 fighter jets and bunker-busting GBU-57 bombs. Western states have accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons for years, a charge Tehran denies.
