After three days of rain lasting through Tuesday, the German Weather Service expects “sunny spring” conditions to arrive from Wednesday onward. Temperatures are forecast to “jump upward,” the agency announced Sunday in Offenbach. Highs between 13 and 20 degrees Celsius are expected, with the warmest conditions in western and southwestern regions.

Before that, rain is set to continue across all of Germany. Larger amounts of precipitation are anticipated only in the central uplands and the Alps. According to the weather service, “significant” snowmelt is already occurring there, below 1,500 meters, the melt is “in full swing.” The mountains are also expected to see strong winds, with Sunday bringing strong to near-gale-force gusts. On Monday, gale-force gusts are forecast even in low-lying areas, with storm conditions and isolated severe storm gusts in the mountains. According to the forecast, winds will ease again from Tuesday.

Along the Upper Rhine, temperatures are already expected to reach up to 15 degrees on Sunday and Monday, while most regions will see highs between 10 and 14 degrees. One cooler exception is the northeast, where temperatures will remain in the single digits through Tuesday. Conditions will be especially chilly on the Baltic Sea islands of Rügen and Usedom.

Clouds are expected to break up on Wednesday. The German Weather Service predicts more frequent sunshine across the southwestern half of the country, with temperatures reaching up to 20 degrees in the west and southwest. Even the northeast is expected to return to double-digit temperatures, ranging from 10 to 15 degrees.

For the second half of the week, meteorologists expect temperatures to dip again. On Thursday, highs of 11 to 19 degrees are forecast, followed by 10 to 17 degrees on Friday and Saturday. Some regions may also see occasional rain during these three days. Afterward, the following Sunday marks March 1, the beginning of the meteorological spring.
