An online video showing an unprovoked verbal assault on four German soldiers on a public street has prompted Munich police to launch an investigation. As authorities in the Bavarian capital announced on Sunday, they are pursuing charges against a 46-year-old suspect and have successfully removed the video from circulation. The recording had been viewed by more than 200,000 users before its deletion.
According to police reports, the initially unidentified man approached the uniformed soldiers on Friday on a street in the Ludwigsvorstadt district and verbally insulted them. Investigators later determined that he had secretly filmed the encounter using his mobile phone and subsequently uploaded the video to an online video platform, with the German soldiers clearly identifiable in the footage. Following the video's publication, Munich police initiated their investigation.
Authorities have identified a 46-year-old Kazakh national as the alleged perpetrator. He now faces charges for insult as well as violation of the Copyright Act for Artistic Works. The latter charge pertains to the infringement of the personal rights of the soldiers who were filmed without their consent. The video has been deleted in light of these violations. Police officials have not commented on the suspect's possible motive for the incident.
